Single Review: INDIAGO ‘Gusto’

2018 has been an incredible year for the Adelaide Hills rocking four piece, Indiago. The last few years were as normal as they could be for the band, as they worked incredibly hard in every aspect of their young career; while in the studio, writing new music, setting up shows and chasing opportunities for local support acts. May saw the release of their current single, Gusto, a three and a half minute track full of heart and soul, and real authentic rock. The single release was a step in the right direction for Indiago; evident proof they were always working harder to reach the next level as they matured and grew in their musical journey.
It wasn’t long before the band locked in their first international headlining tour, embarking on their first trip together all the way to China in August. Beijing, Shanghai, Suzhou and Guiyang; countless shows across these four cities brought together an incredibly successful tour, an amazing list of memories, a tour video and the official music video for Gusto, which is to be released in the very near future. Despite being in a foreign country, the band was more than comfortable rocking out on stage as they played a sold out show in Beijing, being offered extra shows, chanted right back onto stage for encores and receiving praise in articles across local media, including The Beijinger.

From a friend’s apartment in Suzhou, to the street markets of Beijing, to their homecoming headliner in Adelaide; a couple of cameras and a whole lot of memories later, the band put together a highlight reel of their first international tour (and certainly not their last!) as their official music clip for Gusto. It is quite fitting since the lyrics and what we get to experience in the four minute clip almost radiate the same feelings for me each time; they’re just a couple of down to earth guys, they’re brothers more than mates and band members, who love having a laugh and love making music and playing music with each other… and they don’t mind having some fun along the way too! Gusto as a whole and the clip alone highlight the unbreakable bond Indiago have formed as a band.
I won’t lie; from day one, I have had Gusto in my playlist. Gusto is a rollercoaster of a track, giving you all types of feelings and emotions to experience as the song progresses. The opening of the track gives you the modern rock ballad vibes of Kings Of Leon, as we hear the suave sounds of the electric guitar. Before you know it, we are introduced to the entire band and vocals full of passion, sincerity and absolute heart as each verse, each bridge leads to roaring and rocking chorus. Written for their fans, Indiago have effortlessly brought together a dynamic piece of music; from the electric guitar filled melody to the thunderous backline that holds the foundations of the track together, from the genuine lyrics of companionship, friendship and undying support to the soulful voice of lead vocalist Will Solomon. Gusto is a song that fans can relate to on many levels. Gusto is truly an unforgettable alt-rocking anthem I can see Indiago keeping in their tour sets for years to come.

As 2018 comes to a close, I will say this. Indiago are going places, and I don’t just mean physically either. Indiago has the real potential to crack international music markets across the world, just like they did in China; taking their hearts on their sleeves and their rocking repertoire to new heights. With another few local and international tours being geared up for 2019, I dare say Indiago are going to become a well-known name in the homes of alt-rockers all around the world. I cannot wait for their new music (hint hint boys!) and I cannot wait for fans old and new to finally see their new video for Gusto. It’s raw, it’s authentic, it’s energetic and it’s completely Indiago.
